When applying for a visa to India, travellers have two main options: the eTourist Visa and the Regular Tourist Visa.
The eTourist Visa process is entirely online and the applicant will receive the visa through email.
Whereas the Regular Tourist Visa needs to be applied through VFS Global or Indian Consulate/Embassies. The visa will be affixed to the applicant’s passport and will be sent by courier/post to the applicant’s residential address.
The processing time of eTourist Visa is 24 to 72 hours, whereas Regular Tourist Visa processing time is 7-10 business days.
The eTourist Visa is valid for 30 days, 1 year and 5 years, depending upon the option you have selected, whereas Regular Tourist Visa validity is usually 1 year.
The eTourist Visa comes with a double and multiple entry option, whereas multiple entries are allowed with Regular Tourist Visa.
The stay limit with eTourist Visa is 30 to 90 days based on the option you’ve selected, whereas you can stay for 180 days with Regular Tourist Visa.
*Stay limit with visa in one calendar year is 180 days.
To be eligible for an Indian tourist visa, applicants must:
- Be from a country not on India’s restricted list.
- Have a valid passport (minimum 6 months) and two blank pages.
- Use the visa for tourism or visiting friends/family, not for business or work.
- Many nationalities can apply for an e-Visa, allowing stay of up to 90 days.
